Happy Grilled Cheese Day

According to Slashfood.com, today is Grilled Cheese Day. Well, hell ... **** ... Happy Grilled Cheese Day!

Who knew?!

Just a few days ago, the Tennessean ran a story on grilled cheese sandwiches -- without once mentioning Grilled Cheese Day. The Tennessean published grilled cheese recipes featuring apples and Grey Poupon mustard and, well, a whole bunch of crap that don't need to be on a grilled cheese sandwich.

To make a proper grilled cheese sandwich, you don't need much ... and you don't need to do much o' nothing. Indeed:

Joltin' Django's Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients

Two slices of gluten-filled white bread
Two slices Kraft Velveeta sandwich cheese; or, four slices Kraft whole-milk sandwich cheese
One-eighth cup (real) butter, melted

Directions

Heat non-stick skillet to medium-high
Place cheese between bread
Evenly coat "outside" bread with melted butter
Place sandwich in skillet, cook 3 minutes
Flip sandwich, grill 3 additional minutes (or until cheese starts dripping)

Serve and enjoy!

(And don't you even think about puttin' no apples on that sammich, neither!)

Only thing I'd add would be a couple of pickle chips of some kind, maybe a little mustard. And I like grilled cheese made where you put something heavy enough on it as it cooks to kinda smush it down a bit and get the butter really soaked into that bread. Like they do it at Waffle House.

News media need to do a better job of giving us advance notice of such events. They did the same thing with Mule Day, wrote a piece about it one day before. Every year I say I'm going to attend Mule Day.

Thanks a lot Tennessean. Missed Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day and Mule Day all in one week. Have you no shame? No concept of journalistic responsibility? What about the kids? Some little boy might never know the joy of a real grilled cheese the way Joltin' describes it. And what little girl doesn't like mules?

You make me wanna puke up the grilled cheese I didn't have like a mule at Mule Day I didn't get to attend.
